On August 1 the Common Application will be released; however, several colleges have already released their supplemental essay prompts, and the new essay prompts for the Common Application are also available. The summer is an opportune time to start brainstorming, drafting, and writing essays. Students applying to a healthy mix of target, reach, and safety colleges can expect to write 20 or more supplemental essays during the college application process. With an average word count of words, this is a lot of work, and will be much harder to accomplish when school starts.
